Reduce greenhouse gas emissions across all of our business operations
We are taking action across all of our operations, from wheat and cocoa bean production to production facility energy management, in order to fully commit to a net-zero future.
Having assessed our carbon footprint across the three scopes in 2021, we developed an ambitious emissions reduction plan, adopting goals commensurate with the SBTi* ambitions. Each business area team must now include decarbonisation into its action plan so that we can achieve our goals by 2030 and meet the Paris Agreement’s targets.
Please read our OpenClimat page to find out more about our carbon commitment.
*SBTi (Science-Based Targets Initiative) is an initiative that certifies greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with the latest scientific knowledge in order to limit global warming.
Favour low-carbon energy sources and increase energy efficiency
After procurement, energy is the second biggest source of emissions on our carbon footprint assessment (7% of our greenhouse gas emissions). We plan to convert some of our ovens and boilers from gas to electric to reduce our energy-related emissions.
We also intend to obtain ISO 50 001 certification by 2030 for our two production facilities that use the most energy. This standard is an energy management model designed to reduce energy use and expenditure, while helping to cut a company’s carbon footprint.
Reduce our upstream and downstream greenhouse gas emissions
Procurement is the biggest source of emissions on our carbon footprint assessment, accounting for 80% of our greenhouse gas emissions. The production of our agricultural raw materials generates 75% of these emissions. Consequently, we have a major role to play in encouraging our suppliers to adopt low-carbon farming practices, particularly our wheat and cocoa bean producers, as these crops are two priority raw materials in our recipes.
Product transport is the third biggest emitter on our carbon footprint assessment, representing 4% of our emissions. We are working with our logistics providers to reduce these emissions by encouraging them to obtain Objectif CO2 certification (French label and scheme to help transport companies reduce their emissions). Our aim is to attain 100% certified transport companies by 2030.
